Creating new pages

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Starting_a_new_page

Method 1: Enter into your web browser the url of your required new page including the page name. For instance, if you enter the url in your web browser http://wiki.terrywassall.net/New Page and there does not already exist a page called New Page, a new page of that name will open in edit mode for you to add text. Once you have done this and saved the page it will be created.

Method 2: A new page can be created by adding a link to it within another already existing page. See method 2 for addin ginternal links below. If you creat a link to an internal page that does not exist, clicking on the link will open the new page in edit mode for you to add new text. Once you have done this and saved the page it will be created.

Method 3: If you search for a page that does not exist then you will see a link for you to create the page at the top of the search results page - There is no page titled "page name". You can create this page.

Bear in mind that if you create a page using methods 1 or 3 than the only way readers can find your new page is by looking at the All Pages page. You may want to create a link to your new page in another appropriate page.

Adding links to internal pages

Method 1: To add an internal link, enclose the name of the page you want to link to in double square brackets. When you save the page, you'll see the new link pointing to the internal page. Main Page shows as a page link - Main Page. Note that internal page names are case sensitive.

Method 2: Using different text for the link to the internal page.

Wiki Home Page shows as a link - Wiki Home Page. Notice the double square brackets and and the | between the page name and the required link text.

Adding links to external pages

Method 1: Just enter the full url of the external page. This will automatically be turned into a live link, e.g. http://mediawiki.org

Method 2: Using different text for the link. MediaWiki shows as a link - MediaWiki. Notice use of single square brackets [ and ]. Put full url first followed by a space and the desired link text.
